A strategic program developed by two reading teachers to improve your child's reading and writing skills. These strategies are beneficial to primary and intermediate students. We are trained in reading recovery, dyslexia, special education, and have over thirty years experience in the classroom.
The idea of this program evolved from the devotion and commitment of educators who continue to promote student's success through public education. Our desire is to reach out and offer our expertise to make a difference in your child's education. Over the years, we have observed the importance of parent involvement and participation in their child's education. We are frequently approached by concerned parents of children that are feeling frustrated from the lack of success in a classroom environment. Targeting specific individual needs is the major factor that opens doors for a lifelong independent learner. The need for tutorials or extra help is very productive for these students. Unfortunately appropriate and professional tutors are not always available. Parents often feel inadequate and unsure of what to do and are afraid it will conflict with classroom instruction. We feel parents are an excellent and continuous resource for support and guidance for their child's education.		This program is designed to offer simple steps to improve reading strategies with progressive stages of instruction for parents as their child accelerates. If you have concerns about your child's: Reading and writing abilities Reading comprehension Reading grades Poor self-esteem as a reader and writer Lack of interest in reading or writing Then consider some simple techniques to improve your child's reading or writing skills: Listen to your child read and watch for accuracy. If errors occur, have them re-read and detect the error. Listen to make sure the story makes sense and is fluent. If it does not, discuss what will make sense in the story. Observe and discuss words that are unknown or difficult. Look for parts that are familiar to other known words.
EXPLANATION OF PACKETS Homework hints consist of ten suggestions to create a positive and consistent environment for homework that will establish strong study habits for the future. Reading strategies consists of daily lessons broken down into three phases from beginning to independent readers. This part consists of fifteen important strategies to accelerate a child's reading level. Writing strategies consists of fifteen strategies on how words work in writing and incorporate words into a complete thought. These lessons will promote a confident writer.
